Northern Territory Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro, Hancock Agriculture CEO Adam Giles, federal member for Solomon and special envoy for Defence, Veterans’ Affairs and Northern Australia Luke Gosling and Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, opposition spokesperson for Defence Personnel and Industry, headlined the Darwin Bush Summit event hosted by the NT News on Monday.

Some of the key themes discussed included the Northern Territory as a regional powerhouse, major infrastructure projects, connectivity and energy security, as well as liveability in the Territory.

In her keynote address at the event, Lia Finocchiaro warned Australians not to dismiss the Territory’s deep potential. After hailing the Territory’s “beautiful” outdoor lifestyle, Ms Finocchiaro said her region had more to offer the nation. “There is no doubt in my mind, in my team’s mind, or in our government, that we know the success of this country restson the success of the Northern Territory,” she said. “We must turn those glossy brochures into action and now is the time more than ever before, to deliver on that potential.”

Ms Finocchiaro cited the Territory’s energy sector as offering long-term support to the country. “Ignore the Northern Territory at your own peril,” she told the audience. “The time is now – we have,
in 12 months, passed critical rform to get the Territory economy moving forward, we’ve done more to reform regulatory landscape, approval processes, taxation and stimulation than the Territory has seen in a generation.”
