In an interview with Nationals Senator Matt Canavan, Dean noted that the LNP in Queensland had abandoned net zero. Canavan highlighted that more than 99% of LNP members support the return to common sense by scrapping net zero emissions. He also pointed out that Queensland has lost its last urea plant—vital for food production—after promises by Twiggy Forrest and others to convert it to hydrogen proved to be a complete waste of money. Canavan further criticised the Government’s Economic Reform Roundtable for failing to address surging energy prices, despite warnings from the Australian Workers Union that high costs are threatening thousands of manufacturing jobs.
