Australia’s richest woman has kicked off the net zero debate, slamming the use of renewables and the “costly” policy.

In a 10 minute video in conversation with two dairy farmers, mining magnate and Hancock Prospecting chairwoman Gina Rinehart AO said Queensland’s power system was not working and net zero was hurting small businesses.

“Horrible net zero is on your beautiful doorstep,” she said.

“It is so much more expensive because we are giving out all these taxpayer subsidies to basically foreign owned companies, the vast majority of these wind towers and toxic solar panels are foreign.

“There is going to be a lot more costs involved for handling net zero, that I presume, the only thing you can do with that is pass it onto the customer.”

The federal and state government have pledged to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
